If you want to have computed your Body Mass Index (BMI), type your weight in kg and your height in m in the input fields in the bottom area. In the field right of them you will now learn your BMI and its classification (under-, excess or normal weight). It is of utmost importance that you do not take the result for absolute, as the BMI-calculation does not implicate your individual conditions for a possibly admissible divergence. If you feel that the result should be modified, please ask your physician's point of view.
The third menu inquires your sex just for statistical purposes. For the program, it is irrelevant.
2. Particulars

Set Values
This button puts you to the entering of the set values. Click the appropriate tabs to call in the different dialogues.
1. Parameter
Parameter For sure every diabetes is individual and therefore the set values of every patient are individual as well. The set values shall serve you for a guideline. For the program these set values are scale factors for classifying each of your blood glucose measurements as a hypo-, hyper- or normoglycemic one. Furthermore, you have to enter your carbohydrate factors. Carbohydrate factors help you dosing your insulin-injections; for example: in the morning my carbohydrate factor is 1,5 - eating 4 carbohydrate counting units (= 40-48 g carbohydrates) I inject 6 IU insulin.
In the line "base insulin" you will have to enter your type of L-insulin. This line has been implemented as there might exist quite extraordinary insulin-combinations.
There are four different monitoring time zones, you can define different set values, carbohydrate factors and base insulin for.
2. Hyperglycemia
You are offered the possibility to define four different time zones, up to two correction limits and up to three different correction factors. Please discuss the question of how many time zones, correction limits and correction factors will be useful for your individual diabetes with your physician.
Example:
Measurement: 1.4.2003 12:58 Uhr 9,6 mmol/l
Set value: 5 und 6 mmol/l
My correction factor: 3 mmol/l / IU
Consequently I'll inject 1 IU
3. Hypoglycemia
You are offered the possibility to define four different time zones, up to two correction limits and up to three different correction rules. Please discuss the question of how many time zones, correction limits and correction factors will be useful for your individual diabetes with your physician.
4. Pump (only if CSII-Therapy has been preset)
The tab pump is the last one of the screen for parameter entering. It has been added, as the basal rate of the pump can be individually programmed in minimum intervals of 1 hour. As many pumps offer the possibility to save two separate basal rate profiles, you will find two profiles: type A and type B.
The first and third line represent the accordant hour, whereas the second and fourth line represent the adjustable base insulin rate. Within the hour line, 1 stands for the 1st hour of the day, i.e. 0 to 1 o'clock. On the right side of this table, the insulin consumption of each profile is computed. This serves for monitoring, as the pumps dispose of the same function. Thus it is assured that all 24 values have been entered correctly.
